HOW TO BUILD A STRONG PERSONAL BRAND.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.” - Proverbs 22:1 Anywhere you turn, you will hear the word ‘branding’. If you are aware, the word ‘branding’ simply means ‘a good name’.

Anywhere you turn, you will hear the word ‘branding’. If you are aware, the word ‘branding’ simply means ‘a good name’.

The good news is that a good name is possible. The hard news is that what we call ‘good’ is relative and abstract. It is usually subject to the person trying to interpret the name.

To build a strong brand is a lot of work and will always be subject to what the ‘buyer’ thinks. Tough but true.

But I think that we can deduce a few characteristics that constitute a good personal brand… my personal takes are:

  1. Be True: if there is anything that is very important for personal branding, it is that PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW YOU FOR WHAT YOU REALLY ARE. If good, good; if bad, good. Many people know what Trump represents and what Mandela represented. It is better to be known as an unliked brand than a confused brand. Steve Harris would say ‘the last thing you should be is an IGNORED BRAND’ Chai!!! #Watimagbo
  2. Love Solutions: you must love to solve problems. It is not even about your niche or preferred business. It is just the overwhelming commitment to solving human problems. That is pivotal. If all you’re known for is that any problem that comes your way gets solved, you’re made.
  3. Show up. Learn what fits you and what sits well on you. Your appearance does a lot for you in terms of internal confidence and external appeal. When your colours, dress sense, and accessories match your personal expectations and the appropriate audience, you will grow an appeal that pays off ultimately. This was one area I was lagging behind terribly until friends like Gabriel Balogun, Taopheek Babayeju, Ola Omosebi and Stella Wariso contributed to my evolution. I am still getting there.
