“Coach, is EVERY BUSINESS destined to GROW?”

This is a question I was asked during the Q&A with Coach Sam that held last Tuesday. (You can get the 3-hour replay to digest the overload of answers). My answer was “Yes, by default every business grows.”

You see, business, by nature, means SOLVING A PROBLEM. And when you solve a problem, more problem owners (customers, buyers) will know you and come to you. When they come to you, your burden (cases, transactions) will increase. As these increase, your need for more assets (staff, vendors, equipment, resources) will increase.. NATURALLY, A BUSINESS GROWS. (Please get the book THE E-MYTH REVISITED by MICHAEL E. GERBER. It will help you understand this).

The problem with business owners is that they do not DISCERN and PREPARE for Growth. Many entrepreneurs are:

1. Afraid of succeeding. They cannot handle the reality that they are becoming a bigger brand. Then they sabotage the Growth.
2. Small Minded. They prefer to do things in little sizes and resist the Growth by turning down any transactions larger than their current capabilities.
3. Ignorant. They desire to grow but they don’t know how to manage the expansion. This happened with me at SOBCA. We were a lean team of 3 at the beginning, working like triplets. But immediately we grew in team size to 7-9, I was not managing everyone directly. SOBCA now had layers of hierarchy and it was not properly managed. OUR PRODUCTIVITY DIPPED. After we had several iterations of role plays and trainings, we bounced back.
