WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUPS?

I belong to some groups on Facebook that have membership of 100K. Some have 60K. Some have just around 8K. Different groups with massive membership sizes BUT THESE GROUPS ARE LITERALLY DEAD. No activities. No engagements. No impact.

I belong to a particular WhatsApp group. Members are cerebral. And quite connected. But everyone is ‘afraid’ of engaging because the rules of engagement are so stringent that the group seems choked to suffocation.

THAT IS NOT HOW TO RUN A COMMUNITY!

What is a community?
A community is a gathering of people who VOLUNTARILY JOIN WITHOUT NECESSARILY HAVING A SPECIFIC PURPOSE.

When a community forms, the management of the community CAN LEAD into a TRIBE. A tribe is a community that is PURPOSE DRIVEN. There is now a focus and a thrust. A tribe has adopted a CULTURE designed within the community. When a community is guided by a culture, it has become a tribe.

A tribe can be led into a Membership system where people in the tribe can choose A BUFFET of value driven services or products which they will SUBSCRIBE TO. The growth of a tribe is very critical to the relevance of membership systems designed in the community. The community must be pumped with a lot of value so that members can sign up and deepen their commitments.

A membership system can graduate into an ECOSYSTEM. An ecosystem is when ALL MEMBERS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY CAN BE ALLOWED TO SERVE OTHER MEMBERS VIA PRODUCTS OR SERVICES. An ecosystem can also mean that the management of the community grants access for members to enjoy unbelievable benefits to services and products OUTSIDE the community. This is a major deficit among communities I have studied so far. Many groups RESIST the promotion of services in their groups. Group founders DENY members and would-be members the chance to share their value within the community. No community grows that way. None!!!

Let me summarize this conversation..

  1. Be intentional about growing the number of people joining your groups. Make it attractive for people to join.
  2. Always look out for how to improve the life and chances of your members. Let the welfare of your community take over your mind.
  3. Allow members promote to members. Let non-members also share with your members on invitation. Let your groups become so addictive and relevant that it is hard for someone to exit. HELP THE PEOPLE INSIDE YOUR GROUPS MAKE A LOT OF EXCHANGES WITHIN THEMSELVES SO THAT THEY CANNOT JUSTIFY NOT REMAINING IN THE GROUPS.
