WHICH BUSINESS CANNOT IMPLEMENT A MEMBERSHIP SYSTEM?

I met someone who sells GROCERIES. She runs a shop where they sell sweets, coffee, detergents, and all the consumables we use daily at home. And she told me “This Membership thing cannot work for me.”

I smiled. Then I slowly educated her as follows.

Imagine putting a post on your door or till telling customers that in the entire month of December, for items purchased from 5K, a member of the family gets a treat. This treat can range from an extra item, or a lollipop, to as high as a pressing iron or even a microwave. And buyers can enter multiple times to win anything. But to be eligible, they must be willing to share ONLY THEIR MOBILE NUMBER. No need for Names or Email Addresses. ONLY YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS NEEDED.

Also, buyers can GIFT their loved ones by entering their numbers too. In fact, because it is CHRISTMAS SEASON loading, let’s call it CHRISTMAS HAMPER OFFER FROM “GOD’S LOVE SUPERMARKET”. 😁🤣😂

Of course, this means you have PERSUADED your suppliers, partners and other business associates to GIVE YOU AN EXTRA DISPOSABLE ITEM that you can use to GIVE GIFTS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

What are the odds?

  1. 1% of all your suppliers, vendors, and wholesalers will oblige. So if you had 100 sources of buying things for your shop, and 10 spared you extra stuff, you will have AT LEAST 10 GIFTS for a raffle draw, weekly.
  2. 1% of your buyers agree to drop their numbers for you. If every day, 100 people bought ONE ITEM from you, and 1 left contact, by end of week, you’d have 5-7 eligible beneficiaries.

So, every week, 5-7 people get 1 gift from 10 sources FREE OF CHARGE because they bought from you.

Then you take a selfie with them, write the name of the vendor whose gift was given to the winners, print the image, post it on your wall as RAFFLE WINNERS FOR THE WEEK.. and send these prints with a “THANK YOU” note to your vendors EACH WEEK. And use the moment to collect their Names and Email Addresses, and ANY OTHER RELEVANT BUSINESS MINING DATA…
