CHRISTIAN BUSINESS OR NOT.

I went visiting a school recently as part of my cross-industry scanning and as I approached, I saw the following elements: 1. On the school epitaph was written the words: This school is opened on this day DD-MM-YYYY in the name of the God of Bishop David Oyedepo. 2. There was a large banner at the entrance of the school with the words: JESUS IS LOVE.

I went visiting a school recently as part of my cross-industry scanning and as I approached, I saw the following elements:

  1. On the school epitaph was written the words: This school is opened on this day DD-MM-YYYY in the name of the God of Bishop David Oyedepo.
  2. There was a large banner at the entrance of the school with the words: JESUS IS LOVE.
  3. There were several devotionals and Bibles at the reception area.

So, I asked: oh, I see that this is a Christian school? And the receptionist says ‘no Sir. It’s a private school and we also take Muslim kids.’ Then I asked ‘how many non-Christian kids are in your school?’ And she says ‘none yet but very soon they will be many.’ I now asked ‘but is the school owned by the Living Faith Church (the school shares a fence with a Living Faith Church building, so I assumed they owned it.) She said ‘No o. The owner attends Living Faith Church.’

Then I got thinking:

  • If indeed the school is not intended to be a Christian (faith-based school) which I can only verify from the proprietress, how does this PR approach market or DE-MARKET the organization?
  • What are the growth potentials of businesses that mix their faith with their processes and PR?
  • What are the real or imaginary risks and perhaps benefits attached to such PR?
