DON’T CREATE A PERFECT SYSTEM.

Some years ago, I was at a personal hygiene training and the facilitator said THERE ARE SOME BACTERIA 🦠 THAT YOUR BODY NEEDS TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY. Areas of our bodies like private parts and cavities need some bacteria to keep bad odours and bad impacts away.

Bacteria??? I thought we were taught that bacteria was BAD for our health. Hmmmmmmn.

See, I have studied businesses and brands and I have learnt that EVERY SYSTEM HAS OR NEEDS A FIXER. It is probably a futile effort trying to attain a perfect, flawless system.

A FIXER IS THE HEALTHY BACTERIA FOR YOUR BUSINESS.

There is always that person who is GIFTED in sorting out stress, logistics, gaps, loopholes, bureaucracies, etc.

When a system is flawless, it may be naive and would easily become prey to a shark 🦈 environment like Nigeria, and many other climes.

How do you know a fixer?

  1. The person thrives on doing the ‘inconvenient’ work. Somehow, they find pleasure doing what many find ‘not conducive’.
  2. The person KNOWS PEOPLE and KNOWS HOW TO KNOW PEOPLE. They just have a maverick for creating connections with people that matter. And when there is need to get things done, they know who is ONE CALL AWAY to sorting it one-time.
  3. The person NEVER SAYS NEVER. There is this GRIT and DRIVE and PERSISTENCE into getting results. They hardly whine. They hardly nag. They hardly complain. They simply DO.

Now, when you are PRIVILEGED to have a fixer around you.. when God helps you find a fixer, REMUNERATE THEM WELL because they will go all out for you. In remunerating them, don’t focus on salaries alone. In fact, what you reward a fixer with is beyond salaries. If you doubt me, ask any blue chip company that has management teams, board members, etc. THESE COMPANIES SORT OUT THE HOUSING, MEDICALS, EDUCATION (of children), TRAVELS, VACATION, and so many other ‘conveniences’ of the MOST CRITICAL THINKERS OF THEIR BUSINESS.

A. ANYONE WHO HELPS YOU THINK, YOU MUST PRESERVE.

B. ANYONE WHO HELPS YOU FIX THINGS, YOU MUST PROTECT.

C. ANYONE WHO TAKES CARE OF YOUR ‘DIRTY’ STUFF, YOU MUST KEEP.
