AnimaxFYB Studios Accra Ghana has over 20 short animation films and are currently building their first feature length animation movie (90 minutes long). On it are casts including Kate Henshaw and other African stars. Prior to my visit to their office in Accra, they only depended on grants and gigs from international partners like DFID, DAAD, Bill & Melinda Gates, and a lot of others. What they did not have was a long term plan for when these partners are not immediately forthcoming.
SO WE BUILT A 3-STEP COMMUNITY BUILDING STRATEGY for their Phase 2 of MARKET ACCESS.
The goal is to build AN ALTERNATIVE MARKET for their products and here’s the plan:
- We are building a Subscription platform for PROPRIETARY STREAMING of their movies. They currently have 1 movie on Amazon Prime and they’re looking at 5,000 cinemas for their upcoming work including Netflix and other streaming services for ‘post cinematic viewing’. Before the feature length debuts, we need to aggregate revenue from the already existing 20+ short films. So, we are building a platform where we will onboard 200K Subscribers within 6 months subscribing at $2 annually. There’s a second subscription option of $5 that allows for an additional 4 ‘premium short movies’. This channel alone is estimated to generate $400K dollars at $2 and 1M USD at $5. The marketing budget for this channel is $100,000 only.
- We are resuming a MONTHLY IG LIVE STREAM where we will host the big allies of AnimaxFYB Studios. It would interest you to know that Kanye West’s best friend is an ally of the studio. Nneka, the Nigerian-German Artiste, is an ally. There are so many top friends of the studio. The goal is to leverage the relationship to attract mainstream attention to the brand. This attention will be redirected towards building compound subscriptions to the AnimaxFYB streaming app.
- We are starting QUARTERLY In-Person meet ups on the beautiful premises of the studios as well as neutral spots in Accra, and several cities across Africa, EXCLUDING NORTH AFRICA, where some parts of the content may not be considered Halal. The goal is to ACTIVATE Communities in every country on the continent and for Africans in Europe and Americas who would also enjoy access to the streaming platform.
If the promotions and marketing are done right, perhaps AnimaxFYB will enjoy the subscription of at least 25,000 people in its first 12 months (after completing 12 Live Streams & 4 In-Person Meet ups) and may compound to 1M subscribers within 36 months. If the subscription fee does not change, and new movies are added year-on-year, it means $2 million at $2 and $5 million at $5 by 36 months.
Don’t get too excited yet…
This plan is only as good as the following:
- Tier 1 Marketing budget. Perhaps $1 million in promotional and advertising costs in 3 years
- A heavy duty streaming service. The capacity to handle high volumes of concurrent streaming across the globe
- A seamless payment system that allows people subscribe easily without the usual bottlenecks of paying to join
- A robust client fulfillment team that is on ground 24/7 to manage user login or access challenges from subscribers across the globe
- A dynamic reward system that makes the subscribers feel seen, heard and supported as loyal users of the streaming platform
