NEITHER A JOB OR A BUSINESS IS A SAVIOUR!!!

Personally, when I see quotes like “A SALARY is the BRIBE they pay you to FORGET your DREAMS”, I believe it is a VERY IGNORANT perspective. Very!

Personally, when I see quotes like “A SALARY is the BRIBE they pay you to FORGET your DREAMS”, I believe it is a VERY IGNORANT perspective. Very!

Same way I feel when people say “Entrepreneurship (especially in Nigeria) is an extremely hopeless pursuit because it is very hard to build a global brand”. That too is exaggerated.

You see, today I was comparing notes between 2 people.

Mr A trains a group of 14 participants for 3 DAYS and earns N450,000.00 from this 1 gig. Mr B trains a pool of 700 Individuals for ONE (1) MONTH and gets paid N400,000.00. 🤷‍♂️… like What??????

Then I hear of a flip side where a businessman is invited to discuss a project that will last 6 months and he bills them N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) but someone I know, on his job, earns $85,000.00 (N42,670,000.00) annually; that’s N3,555,833.33 monthly. Like what?????

So what do you see here???

NEITHER BEING IN A JOB NOR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS IS THE SAVIOUR! The real saviour here is YOUR ABILITY, EDGE, CAPACITY and COMPETENCE TO NEGOTIATE!!!

See, if you are a BAD NEGOTIATOR, no matter how skillful, experienced, and versatile you are, YOU WILL ALWAYS LOSE A LOT OF MONEY.

Please STOP demonstrating your ignorance about someone’s employment or someone else’s business. Just stop!!! Because either way, if you’re not capable of negotiating a good wage, it’s the same trap.

My honest take:

  1. Learn HOW TO NEGOTIATE: This is a lifelong skill. It will come handy on and off the job, in your relationship with people, etc. Get a course in Negotiation Skills today, right after reading this newsletter.
  2. Learn SELF CONFIDENCE: negotiation is largely embedded in your confidence to DEMAND WHAT YOU ARE WORTH! If you don’t feel confident about what you bring to the table, you will never negotiate well.
  3. Learn HOW TO SAY ‘NO’: yes! If you can say no and walk away from bad deals or deals that don’t favour you, your negotiation chances will skyrocket. Don’t indulge a ‘scarcity’ or ‘poverty’ mindset. Think ‘abundance’. Think ‘multiple open doors’. Think that ‘another better one is coming that suits my preferences’. That’s how to become a good negotiator.
