WHEN A COACHING CLIENT MOVES, LET THEM GO.

It is not everyone I have coached that worked. To be honest. In fact, I think FEWER PEOPLE have really maximized their coaching with me on the overall. But you see those who did; they are literally on 🔥. I have had the privilege of coaching some of the finest coaches in Nigeria. More than 90% of those who maximized their access and coaching with me are the best at what they do TODAY. I have a long list of references. But I have learnt something too in return.

WHEN SOMEONE YOU ARE COACHING HIRES ANOTHER COACH, STEP ASIDE FROM COACHING THEM.

This post is for any Coach on my timeline.

One of the cardinal objectives of coaching is to achieve focus and produce results. A client cannot obtain concrete results when they hire more than 1 coach to pursue similar objectives. This gives room for conflict of interests, rivalries and increased confusions. No! Don’t let that happen.

Many times, coaches are angry that a client is talking to another coach while they are still working with them. No! Don’t feel so. The proof that you know your onions is that you are comfortable to let your coaching client try other coaches. NEVER COMPETE FOR COACHING ATTENTION! Never!!!

Sometime in 2019, I had a big coaching client. Because I am a big coach, our coaching relationship was a ‘big thing’. The results of our coaching was almost instantaneous. Then one day he said ‘I met some coaches today at an event and they are ‘accusing’ you of shielding me from them.’ We laughed at that. He now says ‘I am thinking of working with this and that so as to further do this and that.’ I was privileged that he told me he paid 3 coaches for 3 different outcomes. He told me the amounts, the goals and the tenor. I said ‘oh! Wonderful! I think you’re up for a very great experience.’ And at that moment, I knew my time was up. I instigated the end of our coaching and I STEPPED DOWN!!!

In some cases, I have released some clients who chose other coaches I have raised. This is a massive blessing, if you ask me. Choosing my protégé to help you is a plus to my pedigree. Call me ‘GrandPa Coach’ 🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂

As a coach, you must take note of the following:

  1. You cannot coach everybody. Pick your crop of coachees intentionally. Make sure you are hired by people who are determined to stay the course. Immediately they switch, switch too. No sentiments!!!
  2. When people you are coaching hire another coach to extend their successes, take a look at the situation, determine your wins and losses then RELEASE THEM. Do not try to persuade them to stay. The mind has moved. The body will move.
  3. Anyone you coach that moves to another coach while you’re coaching them DID NOT CHOOSE YOU. Don’t force it. In fact, I see it as a blessing in disguise. Let them be. The ultimate goal is for them to achieve their set goals. It does not have to come through you. Be grateful you were a conduit to that outcome. That is good enough.

If you are a coach, save this post. Thank you much in later years. You will remember.
