A CONSULTANT SHOULD NOT WRITE YOUR VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT

I have written vision and mission statements in this life. Chai !!! Because I have coached many Founders since before 2011 when I left paid employment, I have met people who are genuinely unable to tell where they want their business to go. It is not laziness and it is not ignorance. Many times, these clients say “help me, Coach” and then I indulge but the honest truth is that I should not.

How should a Vision and Mission Statement be CONCEIVED?

Personally, I believe that the Founder should TELL A STORY that answers the following questions:

  1. If everything works for me how I desire and pray, what success should my business accomplish & when do I pray that this happens?
  2. All things being equal, how far do I desire this business to reach and which geographical or extent of space should my influence reach?
  3. If I did not have any inhibitions, what would I love to be remembered for? And what OUTCOMES would my business desire to accomplish for the core people that we will serve?
  4. Based on the information and awareness available to me today, what METHODS and TOOLS do I believe can help us achieve 1-3 above, all things being equal?

If a Coach or Consultant can ASSIST a Client to answers these questions in a PRAGMATIC WAY, then you can facilitate writing one of the MOST AUTHENTIC, PERSONAL & AMBITIOUS Vision and Mission Statements they can get. In this age, it’s even simpler… just plug the answers into ChatGPT or Claude, Gemini or Grok (all AI options) and boom ‼️ 🤯 🤯 🤯 … you’d have DEEP YET RELATABLE OPTIONS.
