I facilitated a Zoom class some months ago where I broke down The Membership Economy this way:
Individual Prospects => Main Community (Everyone inside 1 Pool; e.g Mailing List, Telegram Group, WhatsApp Group, etc.) => Tribes (each Unique subset from the community based on ‘needs’, ‘similarities’, ‘wants’, ‘services’ or ‘niches’) => Membership (subscription, payment options, premium paid services, reward system).

I woke up this morning playing “Question” by BURNA BOY in my head and so I followed the lead and played the track on repeat for almost an hour. In the song, there is a line by the legendary producer DON JAZZY where he asked “WHEN YOU GO WIN GRAMMY?”. That line inspired this post.
Online communities can be challenging to build, nurture and maintain. Just like most plants that are going to be fruitful they require patience, right amount of watering and sunlight. After a while they (plants or communities) attain critical mass and become almost self sustaining in growth.
In 2018, after I felt that my second ever attempt at organizing a conference (BCP Conference) was too stressful and didn’t pay off, I went back to the drawing board. The outcome was BSG Summit, which we launched in 2019. This time around, a PAID EVENT; not FREE.
