I am currently spending family time at a resort and my business mind is scanning and learning a lot from what’s going on here… so let me share what I told the Resort Manager about 2022 Improvements that can change their game forever. It applies to all businesses. Try them too.

I am currently spending family time at a resort and my business mind is scanning and learning a lot from what’s going on here… so let me share what I told the Resort Manager about 2022 Improvements that can change their game forever. It applies to all businesses. Try them too.

1.) Go for a VERY EXCELLENT Physical Environment: unless you are a virtual business, if you decide to open a physical office, showroom, shop, stall, etc. MAKE IT A TRULY EXOTIC SPACE. There is nothing more breathtaking than a world class business space (even your virtual space should be breathtaking). It is always a winner. Always!!! Don’t settle for mediocre finishing and furnishing. No! Spend a premium to make your space worth coming into. Always imagine that you will host the person you admire the most on earth then work to make the space look like what that person would love to come to. I have seen some people’s workspace. Chaotic! Unorganized! Cluttered! Non-fanciful yet when they dress up, you’d be sold out. It’s not completely right. Fix up in 2022. At this resort where I’m vacationing, the physical space is such a delight. Chai!!! Dem spend money abeg. It is exquisite!!!

2.) Attain the best of Customer Experience. Do everything within your power to make your staff happy, and comfortable. Let your staff also understand your business and how it runs. One of the ways to deliver top notch customer experience is that your staff are knowledgeable about the work they are doing. It’s so cool. At this resort, despite limitations in meeting some of our demands, you can see through the staff that they love customers and want the best experiences for them. Right from the gate, we experienced a very warm and sincere energy from each person. I rate them very high on this.

3.) Very Good Food (and if possible, a vast variety of it): if your business has points where food would be served, make it entirely rich. This is very important for trainers, consultants and people who host events. I have attended trainings where food is late and miserly. How can a host be economical about food? For me, that is taboo. If you have ever attended EVEN A FREE SOBCA EVENT, you know that food is surplus and rich. I remember some people who attend our events not to learn (because they said they’ve learnt everything) but for the food. Let me tell you a secret: GOOD FOOD IS A BUSINESS TACTIC!!! Why do you think we always sell out our courses? This is part of it. Please take good food seriously and make it a priority!!! This resort did not get it right on food and catering services. It’s barely a 4/10 for me sha. And I’ve told them at every opportunity so far.

4.) Expert Knowledge: whatever you claim your business is into, let no one have room to argue it. You must deliver what you sell. Inasmuch as other things like items 1-3 above look good, it does not replace delivering on your brand promise. Never exchange brand core with brand alternatives. That is self-destruct. This resort promised world class accommodation. They delivered on it. To be honest.

5.) Great Partners: at this resort, there are Expert Horse Riding Guides, Swimming Coaches, Drone Experts, etc. They are not staff of the resort but they help create a great experience in partnership with the resort. That is how business is run. You must ensure that you find collaborators who will increase the impact of your business. Partner with organizations or individuals who are also committed to your values and who see the benefits in growing their own brands. Mutually, you all will deliver top notch outcomes and everybody wins. At SOBCA, our printing, food, content development, facilitation, etc… these are all partnerships. We are too small to house all these resources but we are made larger through our partnerships. You can do it too.
