Around my estate, there is a UBA ATM Machine. It has been there since I moved into this estate 2 years ago. If my guesses are right, most times than not, the 2 ATMs are always OUT OF SERVICE or TEMPORARILY UNABLE TO DISPENSE CASH. This was the norm. It got to a point when I really did not bother checking the machine anymore.

It got to a point when I really did not bother checking the machine anymore.

Until recently.

For the past 3 weeks, my staff has used that ATM and he says IT HAS NEVER FAILED. What??? I was perplexed. What changed? I asked him.

It was COMPETITION!!! He answered back.

It turns out that FIRST BANK ‘FIRST MONIE’ service was introduced RIGHT BESIDE the room housing the ATMs of UBA. This service DOES NOT require cash to be replenished in an ATM and cash to be dispensed from an ATM. A customer simply comes in, transacts a CASH service via POS and the equivalent amount is counted and issued by the First Monie Staff. The charge is ONLY N150 per disbursement. The cost of transporting to another ATM from my estate would NOT be LESS THAN N600 to be modest. So to and from ATM in town may be AT LEAST N1,500. So First Monie is charging 10% what you may spend going into town to get the same value you seek.

I think we have been TOO LAID BACK. Now is the time to take the competition to the rival. While scouting means to collaborate, also find means to step on the throttle. BE THE COMPETITION.
