In the current book I am reading “Why Startups Fail”, the Author “Tom Eisenmann”, a Harvard Professor of Entrepreneurship talks about 4 terminologies that I like and will break down for you, viz:
You have invested a great deal of resources to get a very good brand narration: great logo, aesthetic colours, powerful brand name, and world class effizy.
Even your website is like the White House, resplendent with finesse and class… it looks like WHAT GOD CANNOT DO DOES NOT EXIST… you have arrived.. but then someone reaches out to your business and there is trouble.
I have an estimated 7,000 followers on Facebook (5,000 Friends and around 2,000 Followers). Let me now shock you.
LESS THAN 200 of this 7,000 human beings have ever bought ANYTHING from me. LESS THAN 200. That is 2.86%. 🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂😂
What this means is that FACEBOOK IS NOT MY PRIMARY MARKET.
Some years ago, I was a facilitator on Coca-Cola’s Youth Empowered programme. It was a programme of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) that ran in several cities for many years. On one of the days, a participant came into the hall with a product of Pepsi. You only need to see how the entire NBC reacted to that. It was like a TABOO had entered the room. I was stunned. That was my first lesson in Branding and Brand Loyalty. WoW!!!
Anytime I come to Lagos, my go-to hotel is SURU EXPRESS HOTEL on Joel Ogunnaike in Ikeja GRA. Whether we like it or not, we must give it to Shekau, the now ‘probably finally’ dead leader of Boko Haram. If we were counting, perhaps Shekau has died like 10 times already, between 2015 and now, since Oga Buhari took over. There have been several claims ‘BH is technical dead!’, ‘BH is decimated!’, ‘Shekau has been killed!’, etc.
I find this gist very enticing and exciting. I am sorry o; despite that I find Facebook’s model (Advertising Model) very ingenious, I am not particularly a fan of Mark Zuckerberg. If you’ve followed my posting about him of late, you’d know that I am averse to his ‘shark’ style. His is even more vicious than familiar sharks we know. So this news has a way of making me feel good.
When Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook, if you had joined at the beginning in 2004-2007, it was super boring. I recall using so many hours to upload the list of my favorite books that I have read (Facebook helped you keep an e-library), family tree, favorite music and favorite movies, etc
